Geriatric Behavioral Health Services

Older adulthood can bring unique emotional and cognitive challenges, from coping with retirement or loss to adapting to medical changes, dementia, or cognitive decline. These experiences can affect mood, independence, and relationships, and may also place strain on families and caregivers.
Comprehensive care for older adults often includes both psychiatry and psychotherapy. Psychiatric evaluation can help identify treatable conditions such as depression, anxiety, or behavioral changes related to medical or neurological illness, and guide safe, effective use of medications. Psychotherapy provides space to process emotions, strengthen coping skills, and adapt to life changes with dignity and purpose. When needed, families and caregivers are included to support communication, care planning, and emotional well-being for everyone involved.
The Geriatric Psychiatry team provides treatment and support for many of the aging-related challenges that can be faced by older adults and their families. Our team has experience with clients who are dealing with memory loss and dementia, anxiety, depression, caregiver stress and burden, functional impairment and family stress that can often accompany aging.
