Elaine Walen, PsyD

Elaine Walen is a licensed psychologist with a strong background in developmental psychology. She began her career as a second-grade teacher, after which she raised and homeschooled four incredible children. She furthered her education with an M.S. in Developmental Psychology, an M.Ed. in Psychology, and a Psy.D. in Counseling Psychology, with a concentration in Couple and Family Therapy. She completed her internship and fellowship at Behavioral Health Network (BHN)in Westfield, Massachusetts, where she was pleased to be employed in a dynamic community mental health setting.

In addition to teaching second grade, Dr. Walen was adjunct faculty at Bay Path University and Springfield College, where she instructed undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students. Dr. Walen has diverse clinical experiences that include therapy and assessment across the lifespan, and leadership roles in supervision and group administration. She maintained a primary role in evaluation, placement, and treatment of patients in the BHN Dialectical Behavior Therapy program, which included individual DBT therapy, DBT group leadership, DBT Faculty Team, Faculty Trauma Team, and training and supervision of interns. She has provided individual therapy to children, adolescents, and adults, with a concentration in couple’s therapy as a Level I Certified Gottman Therapist. Dr. Walen expanded the group offerings at BHN to include groups for Emotional Regulation for Children, Seeking Safety, SAMHSA Anger Management, DBT for teens, and Systematic Training for Effective Parenting.

Dr. Walen began her training in neuropsychological and psychological testing at Providence Hospital in Holyoke, MA, which provided both inpatient and outpatient assessment. She provided educational and achievement assessment for Springfield Charter School children and adolescents, and has been providing assessments across the lifespan in private practice settings in RI.

Dr. Walen enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, reading, travel, and hiking.
